I Sorta Ran

Ok, I pick pink for my font color. Shocking, I know! So.....hey y'all!!! Ang- Jake has Gi-normous tonsils, too. But no issues with them. Anyway, running, yea - I was doing really well for a newbie/late bloomer. I was running at least 3 miles straight, then walk/running another 1-2 miles. If you've seen the terrain here at USMA, you'll be impressed enough with that (hello - hills!). And to further impress - my running buddy and I run at 5 am (Ang- no need to worry about fashion that early - still dark and empty!). That was before Thanksgiving. That was then, this is now. I had a physical setback that prevented me from running at all until this week. I'm so sad at how long it takes to build up your endurance and how quickly it can all go to scheisse! On Monday - first day back - I ran a mile, had to stop and walk a bit, then went another 2/3 mile and had to walk the rest of the 1/3 mile when we quit. We had been running every weekday, but I wanted to ease back into it, so didn't run again until yesterday (Wed.). I actually managed to do worse!! I had pain, so we headed to Stony hill, which is a challenge just to walk up. I couldn't sustain a run for long at all. It's all very depressing. I was really excited and proud of where I was at. Ryan and I have talked about running during our trip to OK (leave tomorrow), but I need some moral support from you guys, for sure! 'Tis the Season to be lazy, fah-la-la-la-lah...
As a footnote - I plan to train up for the 10-miler, but have parallel plans to round out the Keating Krew in 2007, so we'll see how it goes. I can at least be a cheerleader, but am an active participant for now. Looking up my plan, now. If it says I'm supposed to run 8 miles, I'll just cry!

Comment to my own post - I did a quick looksie at training plans. Got frustrated with the Running World website. Kept kicking me out and when I finally got a plan, it told me to run at the same pace for the entire plan and I never ran over 5 miles. I really liked Hal Higdon's 15k novice plan, though. It speaks to me. It's only 10 weeks, though, so I may modify. I like that it includes stretching, strength and cross-training (must spin!).

I too had trouble with the Runner's World site at first. Mainly because I have no idea how fast I can run. After surfing around for a bit I happened upon this page...

I'm sure you're more advanced than this beginer's plan but I think this is what I'm going to do get back "on track".

(p.s. love your font color! I can't see the color pink with out thinking of you. And good luck with rounding out your Krew! Please keep us posted!)

Pink of course. You know, E has some shoes that you would love. Don't be too hard on yourself. Coming back is really hard, especially if you are recovering from something. You have plenty of time to train for this goal.

Hal's plans are pretty good. I used him for my marathons. I even bought his book. Jeff Galloway is the king of walk/run and very popular as well. The key is to find any plan that works for your life and makes you feel like you are making gains without becoming burned out. Work with one and if it doesn't feel good later, nobody said you have to marry it. Make a goal for the next 3 weeks for now.

I am so glad to see you join the group!

I forgot to tell you that I too have been taking advantage of the early dark. Pete and I are in the gym by 6AM, home by 7AM to get the boys up. Often I go back later in the afternoon to finish. It seems to be easier to find 2 small pieces in the day to exercise rather that one big chunk.

I had some pink Nike's that were tres cute, but hurt my toe when running. The nail is only 1/2 grown back! I've always been loyal to Nike, since working at an outlet store in college, but have cheated since the toe incident and LOVE my Asics. Wish they came in pink, but wouldn't give them up for any other shoe!

Ran (well, jogged) a full 2 miles today. Ah....progress. Feels good! E, I'll be with ya after today with the being out of town and overfed! Ang, let us know if you find anything good for cold weather running. I should probably shop, too. I've been layering which works, but would love to be less bulky.

Where's C from NC? Thought she'd be running.

V-thanks for starting this and being such a great inspiration! You are my sunshine in the early darkness.

And, I've told my running buddy and Jenna about the site. We may have a small crew from West Point join the group. OK? I need local support, too.

Aura Lee,

USMA is hilly and beautiful. I think I might try the early morning thing. I can do that in the Summer. However, this winter is kicking my butt. All I want to do is sit around and eat carbs. Just think how much easier it will be to run in FLAT Oklahoma.
