I Lost It

Here is an update on my long-ago bruised big toe. Three months later, I have bid farewell to half of my toenail. When I crawled under the covers last night, I felt a funny pulling sensation in the vicinity of my big piggy. I yanked out my foot to inspect and sure enough, it was barely hanging on; so, off it came. It feels rather odd and a little sensitive and I am a bit afraid to run on it today because I don't know if it will start hurting. I suppose that I will find out soon.

Oh, crap! About a week after that post 3 months ago, I had the same thing happen to my big toe. I thought I was in the clear for it falling off, but apparently not. Does it hurt?

It's tender, it feels really weird, . I haven't run since, because I want to give it a chance to "toughen up". I have this fear that I'll get asome sort of giant blister on the top of my toe. I am thinking about wrapping it with tape and running, but again, I wonder if it will give me a blister around the tape. I know I need to just try it and see and if it begins hurting, then I will stop. I'll let you know how it goes.

It took almost 6 months beofre I lost my nail after the first trauma to it. Once it was gone, it felt really wierd but it didn't hurt. I was apprehensive about running, but it was fine. It didn't toughen up and I didn't blister. Just be cautious you don't try to hold that toe up inside of your shoe because you are favoring it. Relax and run.

By the way, you would never know that I lost that nail now. It came in perfectly.

My understanding is that losing a toenail is a sign that you are a real runner, so congratulations! I haven't been initiated yet, but I think I'll stay a jogger as losing a toenail doesn't sound too fun :)
