Ft. Polk held its first ATM Qualifier this morning. It gets so hot down here that they'll be done with the qualifiers by April. My husband suggested I run it for training, but I have many reasons for not wanting to do that. There are very few women who run it, first off. That means I'd be the last one and I don't want to make anybody wait for me to finish. Ft. Polk's team actually won the ATM last year, so they're really good. The course is extremely hilly too. It's the same route that I ran my 6 miles-in-the-rain run and it's hard.
The route goes right in front of our street, but they would have been passing by at about 7 am which is a bad time for me to go down and cheer. But we did pass some runners on the way to school. 8 miles of the course is through the forest, but at one point my daughter could see one of the water stations. She yells out, "The Army guys have a lemonade stand in the woods!"
Not to make those of you in cold weather jealous, but we've had perfect running conditions. Highs in the 70s, breezy, sunny. Summer down here starts in March though, so it won't be long before I'm complaining about the heat!
