Army Ten Miler...or ?

Do we need to look at a different race? I loved the 10 miler, the race, the energy, the course, the race hotel etc. But that doesn't mean that I am married to the idea. What I really want is to spend a weekend with you guys, reunite with some, meet some others and celebrate all of our work (physically, emotionally, and mentally) towards this mutual goal.

What did you get for Valentine's Day?
My husband registered me for another race this fall. I know some would think that's crazy, but it is the perfect gift for me. It is a race that I have wanteed to run for years now. By telling you the race, I will also be telling you where we will be living next year! Drum roll...

On September 2, 2007, I will be running the Virginia Beach Rock and Roll Half Marathon! That means that Pete was one of three selected to attend the Joint Advanced Warfighter School in Norfolk, VA. We are thrilled; this was a first choice for War College.

So, back to our delimma. Do we just want to rent a beach house in Virginia Beach for labor day weekend and race there. By the way, if my music dies again, I have nothing to worry about because they will have a rock and roll band playing at least every mile.

This is from the website: Fast as it is flat, these 13.1 seaside miles stretch through one of America's most scenic beach communities. The race starts adjacent to the Virginia Beach Convention Center, runs through the resort area, dashes through Camp Pendleton, rounds 37th Street and finishes on the breathtaking Oceanfront Boardwalk. After the race, you will experience a post-race Finish Line Beach Party on the sand as well as a spectacular headliner concert that evening.
At the finish line, participants and spectators can munch on tasty treats and sip frosty beer while they lounge on the sand listening to the finish line feature bands. Later that evening, a headline act will thrill the crowd at the post-race concert on the sand at the 5th Street Beach Stage.

I am open to any discussion. Your thoughts?

Congrats on the new assignment!! So you're not moving until next year? Sounds great!

I'll come root you guys on at Va Beach! ATM is fine, too. Have pom-poms, will travel.

I heard the Todds are headed to War College in PA this summer after a short deployment.

Both of us will move this summer. Newells to VA (a fellowship for War College), the Todds to Rhode Island (Naval War College).

I think I'm out of the half-marathon, but Yeah! You'll only be 4 hours away, so let me know if you want some help with your move-in.

If you couldn't tell, I've been avoiding this one. Half marathon. Wow. I am intimidated, but more importantly, I'm not sure I'll be trained up for that in time.

If I ran it, it would definitely be to just finish. My book says you should be running 25-35 miles/week for 6-12 weeks before a half marathon. I'm just now up to 14!

I do want to do a half marathon at some point. It was the first race I watched my husband run and I thought, "I want to do that." I have no desire to do a marathon though.

I'm going to reserve my answer for later. I'll see how I progress and decide when it's a little closer. The idea of a perfectly flat course is very tempting though!

Okay, so I was looking at the website for this and it sounds like lots of fun. A half-marathon is 13.?? miles, so rounded to 14 miles and I would have 4 hours to finish, that means 3.5 miles an hour...I think I could walk that fast. So, run/walk/run/walk/run/ walk/run...might be an option. That is, if someone will be my buddy and keep me company for the 14 miles. I am in if someone wants to team-up with me for motivation? Actually, maybe I need to get ahold of my old running buddy Patricia since she lives in the area too, I could get her on the half-marathon band wagon to join us.

I'm not up for 13 miles. No way. I was hardly happy with the thought of attempting 10. I'm still happy just doing what I can right now, which isn't much because of the constant snow. We also just put my new elliptical machince together yesterday so I'm hoping to get some exercise soon. My thoughts are that I'll be happy to visit with everyone and have a nice girls weekend.

P.S. Congrats on the GREAT assignment! Hugs to you all!
