Learn from me.....

I went to the physical therapist this morning - it's official. Tore my soleus muscle in my calf. I don't know why I thought that muscles are like lizards tails (they grow back) - fyi - they aren't. That sucks! But, she doesn't think I'll need surgery to reconnect. She thinks that therapy will be all I'll need and that, though it will never be 100% again, I will be fine and happy and healthy a couple months down the road. If for some reason, it's still bad - at any point within a year, I can have the surgery to reconnect the muscle.
Here's where I want you to learn from me - I never stretch. Never. I don't know how, when, why, what to do..... so, I just don't. Both my legs are so tight that she was shocked I didn't have a more severe injury and sooner.... A big part of my therapy will be stretching.
So, please girls, learn from me - stretch after every run.
I will be fine. I will be in the brace and using my cane for the rest of the week then will move to flats with an ace bandage for a long time. Angie knows that I live in my stilettos. Those days are over. I can wear them for short periods of time down the road -but not now. All I have in my closet are running shoes and high heels - and I'm not kidding! I had to go to nine west and buy flats yesterday...
Thanks for all your support and don't forget... STRETCH!!!

Stretching is so important! I'll admit I don't always do the best job, but I do the basics whenever I run. I especially concentrate on my soleus because it's often overlooked and stretching it can prevent shin splints (so I've read). The stretch for it is easy--same as the stretch for the gastroc (when you extend your leg out behind you and lean forward to feel the stretch on the calf), just bend the knee a little to get the soleus.

I'll bet you'll really enjoy the stretching. Once you get some flexibility, you'll notice when you're tight and it feels so good to stretch! Do you still think you're out for sure?
