I'm out.

I had an accident this weekend. I'm going to be ok. I was in my parent's backyard - celebrating father's day. Gorgeous morning. Just finished talking to my British beau on the phone. Great things happening at work. Just so, so happy. Jumped off the backyard swing and started running towards the house. Because I was happy - so I thought, running = more happy! I don't know what happened. Took three steps and heard a pop that still makes me feel faint. And, just immediately went down. I thought - I'm blowing this out of proportion. It's nothing. Trying to convince myself that all was ok. Walked into the house and promptly laid down on the floor to prevent myself from passing out from the shock and pain of it all. My parents took me to the emergency room. I am very, very lucky - I didn't tear my achilles - which would have required surgery. But, I tore part of my calf muscle. I'm in a brace. I'm using a cane. I'm on muscle relaxants (that part rocks). I'm not allowed to wear high heels for three months (this one devastates me). I'm in physical therapy starting tomorrow. And, I'm not allowed to run for at least six weeks (if i'm lucky). I am done feeling sorry for myself. I was really angry at me for such a stupid thing to have happened - with such colossal results. But, I have to let it go and focus on healing. I'm sad about the race. But, there's always next year. I can't risk causing permanent damage to my leg.
So. Friends. I'm out. I hope you don't mind - but, I'm going to keep posting on my progress back to fighting form. And, I want to keep tabs on your training!

I'm so sorry to hear that Cathy. I'm sure you're very frustrated, but you're right, there is next year. And thankfully you didn't tear the tendon. Maybe you can come back enough to walk most of it. It's 3 1/2 months to the race, subtract 6 weeks leaves about 2 months to get ready. Anyway, hope you're feeling better and enjoy those muscle relaxants!

Oh Cathy,
I am so sorry. That is a really bad injury! I know they said you can't run, but maybe you can talk to your physical therapist about pool running. If you have access to a pool, you would be amazed at how that can keep your endurance strong.

Please keep checking in with us. We want to hear about your recovery and your next goals.
