So. I can't say I'm proud of how I've trained for Philly. Or. That I've trained at all really. I have been averaging two runs a week - one short (3 to 5 miles) and one long (usually in the eight range). Now, I am a little sad that I'm going into my first 10 miler ever, accepting that I may have to walk some of it. You guys know that my big thing is I never want to stop running. I don't care how slow I go - I want to always, always run. I'm going to have to prepare mentally that I might have to walk a bit. I'm certainly not in peak condition and what I'm most worried about is injury. Sometimes, I'm a little like Ruffian - and even though I know I'm hurt, I just keep going. (Do you guys know Ruffian? The first filly ever to run with the colts. She was winning too, but broke her leg and the jockey couldn't make her stop running - she didn't want to lose. Sweet little horse!!)
So, I'm being mature and saying this to myself: I haven't trained - I've been crazy with work and stuff and this is going to be a fun run. I'm going to do what I can, but listen to my body and if at 8 miles, it says to me "stop it, b*tch" - I'm going to stop and not think of it as failure or even as disappointing. I'm going to have fun and enjoy Philly and the fact that when choosing how I wanted to celebrate my birthday - I chose running! And, then, when I'm past my crazy time at work (end of June, it slows dramatically) - then I'll get back into training and getting ready for ATM....
I'll write Monday and let you know how it goes!! Cathy

Good luck! Although I had the goal of running the entire way, I always had planned on walking for my drink/snack breaks. Even the pros have trouble drinking on the run. So maybe you can walk for these and it will be enough rest so that you can run the "whole way". You'll be fine! If you can run 8, you can run 10. What's 2 more?
